Making “Cents” Of Real Estate Photography Rates

Homeowners are initially less than thrilled with the idea of paying additional hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars in professional real estate photography. But ask a homeowners whether or not they knew what comprises real estate photography rates, it becomes clear that the lack of appreciation comes from a lack of understanding of how professional images can vastly improve their chances of not only selling their home, but selling it at a price that they want.

Here are just some of the costs that most professional photographers take into account when determining their real estate photography rates:

How Much Is The Photographer’s Time Worth?

The average professional photographer will charge an hourly rate for their time. When determining the time involved, most will take into account their level of:

•    Training
•    Experience
•    Knowledge

A Melbourne photographer will know what rates his or her competitor’s charge, and will consider this when setting their rates for photography projects in the Victorian capital.

How Much Are The Business Expenses?

The costs of running a photography business can be separated into two separate categories:

•    Fixed expenses
•    Variable expenses

Fixed expenses would include items such as insurance and the cost of your equipment (or any upgrades). For many professional photographers, annual training is also a fixed expense.

Variable expenses could be items that may be necessary for some photo shoots, and unnecessary for others. Hiring an assistant, purchasing DVDs for different photography packages and photography consultation sessions would all be examples of variable expenses.

How Much Is The Shoot Price?

A variety of components will make up the ‘shoot price’, with the three basics being:

•    Driving time to the shoot location
•    Shooting time
•    Time spent on retouching, processing, digitally modifying and then delivering the photos

As a final note, while it may be tempting to opt for a less expensive real estate photography option by hiring a less experienced part-time photographer, they may not produce the best images of your property. In fact, the photographers who offer the lowest prices often only provide standard bare-bones “point and shoot” images .

Qualified professional photographers, like our We Shoot Buildings team who are skilled in real estate photography in the Melbourne area have the talent and training to capture the best photos that will make an invaluable addition to your property marketing packages.
